In Texas, the driver and every passenger must wear a safety belt, no matter where they sit or how old they are. A child under 8 must be in an approved car seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches.

Texas posts both minimum and maximum speed limits, and the basic speed law still applies: you may never drive faster than is safe and prudent for the conditions, even if you are under the posted limit.

In Texas, a driver 21 or older is legally intoxicated at a BAC of 0.08. For anyone under 21, zero tolerance means any detectable amount of alcohol can cost them their license. Drivers under 18 may not use a wireless device at all while driving - not even hands-free - except in an emergency.
